Owens River Water Trail

The County of Inyo is planning the Owens River Water Trail Project to establish a 6.3-mile navigable waterway for non-motorized watercraft, such as kayaks and canoes, within the Lower Owens River floodplain. Located between Lone Pine Narrow Gauge Road and State Route 136, the project involves removing emergent vegetation and excavating the river channel to ensure a continuous path. Additionally, the project will include the construction of boat launch and take-out facilities equipped with signage, wildlife-resistant trash receptacles, and vault restrooms. The project area is situated on land owned by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, while the County of Inyo will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the trail. This initiative represents approximately 10 percent of the rewatered Lower Owens River. Administrative oversight is managed by Inyo County in California, with primary points of contact including the Mitigation Projects Manager and the Director.
