Grassed surface at the base of the masonry wall retains moisture and does not allow for adequate drainage. Maintaining dryer conditions for historic masonry will help to reduce eventual damages and repairs to the masonry. The pea gravel strip be made all the length of Wellington stone wall on parliamentary Hill. That is to say; from Dr Mackenzie Street and stopping perpendicularly to Statue of William Mackenzie King on Rideau Street side for a total length of around 509 meters. Pea Gravel Strip will be composed of 3/4'' clear gravel surrounded by geotextile fabric and covered with river stone 3/8" to 5/8". New Landscape edging will match the existing.
