Physiological Radiation Injury using Systemic Multiorgan and Countermeasure Evaluation

The NASA Shared Services Center is issuing a presolicitation for a sole source contract, solicitation number 80NSSC26936794Q, intended for Biopico Systems Inc. under FAR 12.102(a) as a commercial item acquisition. The project, titled Physiological Radiation Injury using Systemic Multiorgan and Countermeasure Evaluation, focuses on the development and evaluation of the PRISM CMEVALUATE human multiorgan microphysiological platform. This platform will be used to model radiation-induced tissue injury across cerebral organoids, cardiac organoids, liver tissues, and endothelial barriers under recirculating flow conditions. The study will evaluate radiation dose-response effects at 0.5, 1, and 2 Gy, assessing oxidative stress, DNA damage, cytokines, and viability, while testing the efficacy of countermeasures including NAC, Metformin, Fisetin, and Amifostine. The work is scheduled to be performed at the Biopico Systems Inc. facility in Irvine, California, over a six-month period estimated from July 2026 through January 2027. Key deliverables include radiation dose-response datasets, quantitative analyses of tissue-specific functional markers, and a final summary report meeting NASA data submission requirements. Optional single-cell RNA sequencing may be conducted to further characterize molecular responses. While the agency intends to award this as a sole source procurement, interested organizations were given until July 6, 2026, to submit capability statements to determine if the procurement should be made competitive.
