The National Institutes of Health, administered by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, is soliciting applications for Pilot Projects to Enhance the Human Virome Program under solicitation RFA-RM-27-024. This initiative seeks to support small pilot projects that characterize the healthy human virome and develop tools, models, and methods to study its composition and influence on health and disease. Eligible applicants include small businesses and other for-profit organizations, with a strong encouragement for those outside the current Human Virome Program consortium to apply. The program intends to commit approximately 2 million dollars in FY2027, with individual award direct costs capped at 100,000 dollars per year. Applications are due by November 10, 2026, for a potential July 2027 start date, or October 22, 2027, for a potential July 2028 start date. Awards are granted based on scientific and technical merit evaluated through the NIH peer review system, focusing on the importance of the research, rigor and feasibility of the approach, and the expertise of the investigators and their environment. Successful projects must produce unbiased, reproducible data and validated tools while adhering to strict regulatory standards, including 45 CFR Part 46 for human subject protections and various federal cybersecurity requirements, such as multifactor authentication and 48-hour incident notification. Applicants must maintain active registrations in the System for Award Management, eRA Commons, and Grants.gov, and all Principal Investigators must be registered with ORCID. Full Description

The Common Fund Human Virome Program (HVP) aims to extensively and comprehensively characterize the "healthy" human virome (the collection of viruses that normally reside inside the human body without evidence of disease) and create tools, models, and methods that will enable an in-depth study of its variation and composition in relation to host factors and its influence on health and disease.

The purpose of this NOFO is to support small pilot projects that extend the goals of the HVP, including further validating, improving, and complementing existing and newly developed tools from the HVP program by leveraging human specimens collected from the cohorts under the program; samples from animals to promote the refinement, utilization, and translation of these tools to better serve the goals of the HVP program; expanding existing cohorts and/or biospecimen sampling sites for virome characterization; developing tools, assays, and methods to study the human virome; and defining functional interactions between the human virome and host. These pilot projects will expand the HVP consortium, and collaboration across the HVP is expected. Applicants outside the current HVP are encouraged to apply and pilot projects should not overlap with existing HVP efforts (visit the Common Fund website for a list of funded research).

The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity is issuing a pre-solicitation notice for an on-ramp to the OMNIBUS IV Multiple Award, Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicle. This initiative aims to expand the pool of eligible contractors providing military medical research and development services, including laboratory and technical support, regulatory process expertise, and translational science services. The eventual Request for Proposal will be set aside exclusively for small businesses certified under the Small Business Administration 8(a) Program. Due to the need to implement recent FAR Overhaul guidance, the anticipated posting timeframe for the solicitation has been extended to late September 2026. The OMNIBUS IV vehicle operates with a base ordering period from June 20, 2022, through June 19, 2027, and an option ordering period extending to June 19, 2032. It features a cumulative ceiling of 10 billion dollars, with over 630 million dollars already awarded across 55 task orders to various end users, including the Naval Supply Systems Command and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. New awards from this on-ramp will align with the existing unrestricted vehicle. Prospective offerors must be registered in SAM.gov and will be required to submit proposals through the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment solicitation module once the formal RFP is released.
