Pine Creek Wildlife Area Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project

The Pine Creek Wildlife Area Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project, managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, focuses on reducing detrimental wildfire impacts through strategic fuel reduction treatments. Located in Modoc County near Alturas, the project involves the removal of juniper across approximately 250 acres, specifically targeting areas within meadows and within 200 feet of streams. Additionally, prescriptive and cultural fire treatments will be implemented across most of the property at various intervals. The project is governed by CEQA Guidelines Sections 15304 and 15308, ensuring that activities do not involve construction or the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees. Performance standards mandate that the work must not result in environmental degradation, significant erosion, sedimentation of surface waters, or the harming of rare, endangered, or threatened species.
