The New York State Department of Transportation is preparing to undertake a project to rehabilitate and improve the pavement on Runway 1-19 at Republic Airport in Suffolk County, NY. The scope includes milling and filling the runway surface, installing pavement markings, and reinstalling some in-pavement runway lights to enhance safety and operational efficiency. The project is scheduled for bidding on February 6, 2025, with construction expected to commence after a federal grant agreement is finalized, anticipated in fall 2025, and to be completed by December 31, 2026. The total construction duration is 124 consecutive days, during which some phases will require the closure of both Runway 1-19 and Runway 14-32, necessitating careful coordination with airport operations. Funding for the project is primarily anticipated to come from a Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program grant, with a 10% Disadvantaged Business Enterprise goal. Bidders must coordinate closely with the airport’s management and adhere to strict safety and phasing plans, especially during runway closures. The project bid deposit is set at $750,000, and the contract size is estimated between five and fifteen million dollars. Due to the nature of the work, site access and scheduling will be managed in conjunction with the airport’s operations team, emphasizing the importance of coordination and compliance with safety protocols throughout the project duration.
