The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is holding a teleconference for entities interested in bidding to become vendors under the Competitive Acquisition Program (CAP), which contracts suppliers for certain Medicare Part B drugs and biologicals in competitive acquisition areas. This program, established under section 1847B of the Social Security Act as amended by the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003, aims to competitively select vendors for these supplies. The bidding period is set from July 6 to August 5, 2005, and detailed information, including bidding forms and an interim final rule, is available on the CMS CAP website. The teleconference scheduled for July 8, 2005, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM ET will offer potential bidders an opportunity to ask questions specifically related to the bidding process and the vendor role as outlined in the interim final rule; however, CMS will only address queries relevant to the bidding process and only from potential bidders to ensure compliance with communication restrictions. Participation in the teleconference is limited to telephone attendees, and no contract awards or binding commitments will result from the call itself. Additional questions about bidding can be submitted via email to the designated CMS address, with responses posted on the CAP website, although comments will not receive direct replies. The contact person for questions is Mark Zobel, with details provided for further communication along with a requirement for company contact information to be included in email inquiries. The broader contract opportunity is identified under solicitation number "Reference-Number-CAP-05-01" with a NAICS code of 923120, managed by CMS staff including Contracting Officer Brian D Hebbel.
