Background: The Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was established to facilitate research in vaccine development. The VRC is dedicated to improving global human health through the rigorous pursuit of effective vaccines for human diseases. The mission of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) is to conduct research that facilitates the development of effective vaccines for human disease. The virology core section of the VRC is developing vaccines for HIV-1 and other viruses. Production of various wild type and mutant viral proteins is critical in vaccine development. These viral proteins need to be expressed in cell lines. Description and purpose of the Requirement: The Expifectamine Transfection kit reagent is specific for suspension of 293 cell lines and has been proven to support and improve proteins expression for our protocols. Therefore we must maintain reagent standards to insure experimental results are not influenced by other variables.
