Ranchos Rehab Project

The Ranchos Rehab Project, managed by Caltrans District 6 in Fresno and Bakersfield, involves infrastructure improvements to a 2.9-mile segment of State Route 41 in Madera County, specifically between post mile 6.3 and post mile 9.2. The primary scope of work includes widening and elevating the roadway from post mile 6.5 to 9.0 to resolve line of sight issues, flooding potential, and non-standard shoulder widths, while the remainder of the project area will undergo repaving. Amendment 2 further expands the project area by 1.33 acres between post miles 8.2 and 8.5. Environmental compliance is a critical component of the project, as it impacts 29.44 acres of California tiger salamander habitat, consisting of 19.909 acres of temporary impacts and 9.351 acres of permanent removal. Because the California tiger salamander is a threatened species under the California Endangered Species Act, the project operates under Incidental Take Permit No. 2081-2021-008-04 Amendment No. 2 issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The project was approved on April 16, 2026, and adheres to the California Environmental Quality Act requirements.
