AI Contract Overview
The Department of the Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC) intends to award a contract to Life Technologies Corporation, located in Grand Island, NY, under a sole-source acquisition for specialized reagents used in molecular biology research. This procurement focuses specifically on brand-name TaqMan probes, which are dual-labeled DNA oligonucleotides essential for quantitative real-time PCR applications. These probes utilize fluorescent reporter dyes and quenchers to enable detection and quantification of DNA targets during amplification. The contract covers various probe types and multiplexing capabilities, including single and multi-target formats with dyes such as FAM, VIC, CY5, TAM, MGB, QSY, and QSY2, supporting the simultaneous detection of up to six DNA targets. These products are critical for maintaining consistency in ongoing research projects, especially those involving legacy probe designs. This acquisition will be conducted under NAICS code 325414 and follows the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12 procedures applicable to commercial items. Prospective contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) and hold a Unique Entity Identification Number (UEI) to be eligible for award. Although the contract will not be competitively solicited, the government may consider capability statements submitted by interested vendors. The contract opportunity was posted on May 13, 2026, with a response deadline of May 29, 2026. The contracting office is based in Silver Spring, Maryland, with designated points of contact available for further inquiries.

Full Description
Specific items include:
o TaqMan probes are specialized, dual-labeled DNA oligonucleotides used in quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) to detect and measure specific DNA sequences. They feature a 5 fluorescent reporter dye and a 3 quencher, which suppresses fluorescence until Taq DNA polymerase cleaves the probe during amplification, releasing a measurable signal proportional to the target DNA amount. o FAM, VIC and CY5 are the 5 markers respectably. o QSY, TAM, MGB, And QSY2 are all 3 markers respectably. o The probes can be used to perform Multiplex up to five/six targets o TAM for Multiplex up to 2 targets, Ideal for maintaining consistency in projects using legacy TAMRA probe designs, Available with FAM, VIC, and TET dyes o MGB for multiplexing up to five targets with FAM, VIC, ABY, JUN, and Cyanine 5 (Cy5) o QSY for multiplexing up to four targets with ABY, JUN, FAM, and VIC dyes o QSY2 for 5th and 6th target multiplexing with Cyanine 5 (Cy5) and Cyanine 5.5 (Cy5.5) dyes
