This design-build project involves the replacement of the HVAC system at Building 393 in Fort Meade, Maryland, under solicitation W912DR-10-R-0068. The scope of work includes the demolition of the existing direct expansion variable air volume air handling unit and its associated air-cooled condensing unit. Depending on the final design, a new chilled water or direct expansion variable air volume air handling unit will be installed. If a chilled water system is chosen, the contractor must install a new air-cooled chiller package in the service yard, complete with pumps, tanks, automatic glycol feeding equipment, controls, and necessary piping. Additionally, the project requires the installation of new variable air volume terminal units and associated ductwork, piping, controls, and power to increase the number of thermostatic zones. While the existing boiler will remain, all current HVAC controls must be demolished and replaced with new Lon DDC controls, which will be integrated into the Trane Bacnet UMCS. The contractor is also responsible for patching and repairing building finishes affected by the installation.
