The Product Manager for Soldier Survivability (PM-SSV) is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to gather data on commercially available or near-commercial ballistic resistant faceshields and maxillofacial protection devices. These devices must protect against injuries from blast fragmentation, spall, and debris typically encountered in combat environments involving mines and grenades. Key requirements include compatibility with the Army’s Advanced Combat Helmet without modification, integration with existing military eye protection or provision of protection against sun, wind, and dust, a maximum weight of two pounds, ease of donning and doffing, and operational reliability in sandy and dusty conditions without additional support. This effort is strictly informational and does not constitute a solicitation or obligate the government to award a contract. Industry submissions will assist in determining suitable products that might later be procured for field testing. Interested firms are encouraged to submit product literature, technical data, test results, cost information, and availability details for products that are commercially available or are imminent for purchase and delivery by April 15, 2007. Prototypes must have demonstrated ballistic resistance with test data available by February 9, 2007. All responses must comply with the Buy American Act, and proprietary information submitted will be protected within the US Government. The government will not provide compensation for information submitted, nor does submission guarantee product approval.
