AI Contract Overview
The Missile Defense Agency is seeking input through a Request for Information on next-generation capability solutions for the MDS-Next program, targeting the 2035+ threat environment. This RFI focuses on strategic architecture thrust areas where novel, disruptive, or cross-domain approaches are desired to advance missile defense mission outcomes beyond incremental improvements. Responses must be submitted as white papers, limited to five pages, and must clearly articulate the proposed capability, its operational impact, technical maturity including Technology Readiness Level, integration potential with existing systems, and a rough order of magnitude cost estimate. Submissions must align with designated thrust areas and include a Distribution Statement A marking for unclassified content, while proprietary or CUI information must be page-by-page marked. All responses are voluntary and for planning purposes only; no contract or award is anticipated from this activity. The deadline for white paper submissions is 1200 CST on May 15, 2026, with the original posting date being May 12, 2026, and Amendments 1 and 2 extending the window and providing additional details. Submissions must be delivered electronically via email to mda.mbx.sppa@mail.mil, with classified materials up to Secret level requiring prior coordination through an unclassified email to establish secure transfer pathways via SIPRNet or DoD SAFE. Access to classified information requires confirmed Facility Security Officer designation, appropriate facility clearance level, and personnel with valid security clearances. The government reserves the right to use AI tools in evaluating submissions. No compensation is provided for responses, and participants are not guaranteed future contracting opportunities. While size status certifications and socioeconomic designations are not required, small businesses are encouraged to participate and describe their innovative contributions or teaming arrangements. CAGE codes are necessary only if respondents seek access to classified materials. No formal contract clauses, packaging standards, delivery terms, or payment instructions apply because this is strictly an information-gathering tool, not a procurement action. Evaluation of submissions will consider alignment with strategic thrust areas, capability approach, operational impact, technical feasibility, integration, and cost considerations without numerical weighting or formal rating criteria.

Capability Solutions for Strategic Architecture Thrust Areas
The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is executing a strategic planning effort to inform future capability development and investment opportunities in response to the 2035+ projected threat environment. As part of this effort, the Agency has identified Strategic Architecture Thrust Areas representing priority focus areas for advancing missile defense capabilities in the 2035+ timeframe. These thrust areas reflect where the Agency is seeking new or alternative approaches to address future mission challenges and achieve improved mission outcomes.
This Request for Information (RFI) represents the transition from identifying and prioritizing strategic focus areas to evaluating solution approaches that can advance those areas. Responses will inform prioritization of capability areas and potential POM investment decisions.
