Request for Proposals for Roof Replacement at Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site

The Texas Historical Commission is soliciting proposals for the complete roofing restoration of the Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site located at 400 Railroad Avenue, Slaton, Texas. The project requires the removal and replacement of the existing asphalt roof with new materials, including all sheet metal flashing, while preserving the building’s historic character, which includes a flat upper-story parapet bearing the Santa Fe Railway symbol, a stepped parapet on the arcaded trackside pavilion, and deep overhanging eaves supported by decorative brackets. All work must comply strictly with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and applicable Texas state laws, including the Government Code provisions on construction services. The contractor must identify and repair all active leaks, address structural deficiencies, and apply a high-performance coating or sealant system to ensure a fully watertight, warrantied assembly. Only respondents with a minimum of five years of documented experience in restoring roofs on historical buildings of comparable type, scale, and scope will be considered.
