The contract, issued by the Regional Contracting Center Fort Knox, involves a sole source award to Advantage Mold for the procurement of aluminum molds compatible with the Advantage Mold Rapid Mold Machine, model KEJ 9-13-04. This firm fixed-price commercial contract is awarded under FAR 6.302-1, recognizing Advantage Mold as the only known source able to meet the government’s minimum requirements. The government determined that purchasing molds from a different supplier would lead to unnecessary duplicate costs, including expenses related to recreating baseline drawings, testing, training, validation, and managing logistics for a new system. The Rapid Mold system currently in use has proven effective, and the award aims to maintain continuity and cost efficiency by avoiding modifications or changes to the existing setup. The contract was expected to be awarded around September 10, 2008, under solicitation number W22PEX82190001, and falls under the NAICS code 333515, which pertains to metalworking machinery manufacturing. For additional information, contact is provided through Dorothy McCormick at the Fort Knox contracting office.
