The State University of New York at Stony Brook is seeking information from vendors for a virtual reality software program tailored to hospital and medical training environments. The initiative aims to enhance the educational capabilities of Stony Brook Medicine and its health science schools by providing an interactive, realistic simulation platform that encompasses various healthcare settings such as inpatient, outpatient, and emergency rooms. The software should support both headset and non-headset use, allowing users to interact with virtual supplies, equipment, and patients through multiple input methods like mouse or hand gestures. It must accurately depict healthcare professionals across different disciplines and patients with diverse medical conditions, facilitating both independent and collaborative learning experiences. The platform should also accommodate multiple simultaneous simulations, offer performance feedback, and ideally include interprofessional scenarios and procedural skills training. The RFI is open to all counties in New York State, with a response deadline of November 29, 2024. Interested vendors can access the solicitation details through the specified online portal. The project has a budget range between $500,000 and $2,000,000, and the contract will be managed by SUNY, with primary contact being Contract Officer Brian Molina. The initiative emphasizes leveraging innovative VR technology to improve healthcare training outcomes in a controlled, safe environment, supporting the broader goal of advancing medical education and interprofessional collaboration through immersive simulation.

The State University of New York at Stony Brook intends to make this Request for Information under its discretionary authority, pursuant to State Finance Law §163(6) and NYS Education Law Section 355(5)(a).  The Request for Information (RFI) is issued by the State University of New York at Stony Brook (hereinafter referred to as SUNY) to obtain information for a Hospital/medical setting Virtual Reality software program.  Stony Brook Medicine (a teaching hospital) and the Stony Brook University Health Science Schools would like to expand their training abilities to include a virtual reality (VR) software program that would provide interactive simulations to allow staff and students to practice and learn healthcare skills in a safe and controlled environment.   The program should simulate various healthcare environments (inpatient, outpatient, emergency room, etc) and the equipment and supplies found in these areas.  The software should be able to be used with or without a headset.   The users should be able to interact with the virtual environment to select supplies and equipment using either a mouse or hands (if using VR headsets) to care for the patients and perform necessary assessments and/or procedures.   The program should realistically portray healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, physical therapists,  social workers, etc) as well as patients with different medical conditions.    The software should allow the users to interact with patients and collaborate with each other as well as work independently.   The program should provide for a few different simulation experiences occurring at the same time for different sets of users and be able to provide feedback to the users on performance.   Ideally, the software program will offer interprofessional (IPE) scenarios and procedural skills training.  How to access the event; search SBU Hospital Setting VR Software program RFI on the following website. https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=SUNY Due date:11/29/2024 10:00 AM .
