AI Contract Overview
The Defense Health Agency, on behalf of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Integrative Systems Biology Branch, intends to award a sole source cost reimbursement research and development contract to Medstar Health Research Institute. This initiative focuses on the collection of blood samples and longitudinal clinical data from septic and non-septic burn patients to refine and validate the SeptiBurnAlert program. The government is transitioning this requirement from a firm-fixed-price award to a cost-type contract to better align with research needs. Medstar Health Research Institute is identified as the only technically acceptable vendor because they are currently recruiting subjects and collecting samples under an approved Institutional Review Board protocol. While this is a notice of intent to sole source, the government will consider capability statements from other interested parties to determine if competitive procurement is in its best interest. All submissions must be delivered to the primary point of contact by October 15, 2026.
