FY26 SAVANNAH INNER HARBOR MAINTENANCE DREDGING PROJECT

The Savannah Inner Harbor Dredging Contract involves comprehensive maintenance dredging services for the Savannah Harbor navigation project, located near Chatham County, Georgia, and Jasper County, South Carolina. The contract covers furnishing personnel, equipment, transportation, and other resources necessary for dredging, typically using a hydraulic cutterhead dredge. The project is expected to last about one year from the Notice to Proceed, with an estimated removal of up to 5.6 million cubic yards of maintenance material. The dredging extends through various channel depths and widths, including critical areas like the Kings Island Turning Basin, which requires biannual dredging of up to 1.5 million cubic yards to accommodate large civilian and military vessels near the Georgia Ports Authority docks. Most dredged material must be placed in designated upland confined disposal areas (DMCAs) owned by local sponsors such as the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Joint Project Office of the Georgia/South Carolina Port Authorities, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Environmental restrictions affect dredging schedules, protecting species such as striped bass and sturgeon during key spawning and aggregation periods, and managing sediment containing cadmium to prevent harm to wildlife. Contractors must also manage and remove obstructions encountered during dredging that cannot be handled hydraulically. The base contract includes mobilization, maintenance dredging, diving operations, and obstruction removal, with options for specialized cadmium sediment handling and additional maintenance dredging. Coordination with other contractors working in adjacent containment and staging areas is required under the direction of the Contracting Officer.
