State Biomonitoring Cooperative Agreement

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity is to support state, local, tribal, and territorial public health laboratories in conducting high-quality biomonitoring and assessing human exposure to environmental chemicals within their jurisdictions. Strengthened laboratory capacity for exposure assessment will help jurisdictions identify and reduce harmful exposures and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Applicants may propose biomonitoring activities under one of the following components to be completed during a 3-year funding period:

1. Community biomonitoring investigations in a targeted area for metals, pesticides, or PFAS.
2. State- or regional-level biomonitoring studies.
3. Measurement of chemicals of emerging concern that are not included in the National Exposure Report (examples include, but are not limited to, radiobioassay, nontargeted analysis, microplastics, nutritional biomarkers, ethylene oxide or assessment of secondhand smoke exposure to cannabis).

Proposed recipient activities should include biomonitoring to assess exposures of concern, enhancement of laboratory capacity and technical expertise, coordination, and collaboration with partners to strengthen exposure investigations, and clear reporting of findings to relevant audiences.
