Strengthening global health security in India to contain public health threats and accelerate outbreak response

This contract aims to bolster India’s public health infrastructure by advancing global health security priorities focused on preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats through a collaborative partnership between the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Government of India. The initiative will strengthen key institutions including the National Centre for Disease Control, National Health Mission, Indian Council of Medical Research, National Disaster Management Authority, National Institute of Disaster Management, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, with the goal of transitioning CDC-supported programs to sustainable, locally-led systems. The work will be grounded in a One Health framework aligned with the International Health Regulations and will target five critical areas: building a skilled public health workforce, enhancing disease surveillance networks, upgrading laboratory systems, improving emergency preparedness and response capabilities, and addressing antimicrobial resistance. Funded under solicitation CDC-RFA-JG-26-0051, the project is open for applications with a submission deadline of October 2, 2026, and is managed by the Centers for Disease Control under the Department of Health and Human Services.
