Strengthening global health security in India to contain public health threats and accelerate outbreak response

The contract aims to enhance public health systems across district, state, and national levels in India by supporting the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) priorities focused on preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will collaborate with the Government of India to strengthen their capacity to manage disease outbreaks effectively at their origin. This initiative involves transitioning CDC-supported GHSA activities to key Indian institutions such as the National Centre for Disease Control, National Health Mission, and Indian Council of Medical Research, among others. The overarching goal is to develop a sustainable framework for outbreak response and public health threat neutralization. The program will adopt a One Health approach that aligns with International Health Regulations, targeting improvements in five critical areas: building a competent public health workforce, enhancing disease surveillance systems, upgrading laboratory capabilities, bolstering emergency preparedness and response measures, and addressing antimicrobial resistance. By focusing on these components, the contract seeks to establish a robust and integrated health security infrastructure that can detect and control infectious diseases promptly, thereby contributing to global health security efforts.
