Brand Name Justification: This procurement is being conducted in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 11.105 (a) (1). The FBI has a requirement to purchase Symantec Backup Executive Software to support Federal Directives for analysis and characterization of DNA collection sampling. This analysis is critical for trending to obtain viable and useful intelligence. The Symantec software is the only one compatible with the current agency inventory of software already in use. The Symantec software maintains agency standards for measurement and preservation accuracy. By alternating software, compatibility would not be possible. Procuring the requested software will ensure continuity of operations, provide for a seamless transition, prevent excessive lack-of-compatibility costs, comply with current and future requirements, and enhance agency capabilities. The Symantec software is the only software that will meet the needs of the FBI. FAR 52.247-34, (Nov 1991) - FOB Destination: FBI Laboratory, 2501 Investigation Parkway, Quantico, VA 22135. The contractor shall extend to the Government full coverage under a normal commercial warranty. Acceptance of the warranty does not waive the Government rights with regard to the other terms and conditions of this contract. The warranty period shall begin upon final acceptance of all items provided to the Government by the Contractor.
