Lift ChallengeThe DARPA Lift Challenge is a public competition designed to accelerate innovation in vertical and heavy-lift aviation through novel drone designs. Open to teams from companies, startups, universities, and independent innovators, the event culminates in a live demonstration from August 6 to 9, 2026, at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, with free public admission. Competitors must field drones weighing no more than 55 pounds capable of carrying payloads of at least 220 pounds over a 5-nautical-mile course, with prize money of $6.5 million awarded to those achieving the highest payload-to-weight ratios and most innovative solutions. The competition is structured as a “chase the leader” format, testing not only performance but also reliability and engineering ingenuity under real-world conditions. Beyond the immediate stakes, the challenge aims to catalyze long-term advancement in American drone technology, benefiting both military operations and civilian applications. Spectators are encouraged to attend in person, where drone flights will be visible via Jumbotrons and enhanced with binoculars due to the venue’s scale, while the entire event will be livestreamed on YouTube from August 2 to 9. Advance registration is required for attendance, and the competition is part of a broader effort by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to push the boundaries of flight efficiency, autonomy, and payload capacity, positioning the United States at the forefront of next-generation aerial systems.

ALR-67(V)3 Multi-Channel Analog-to-Digital (MCAD) Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)The Naval Air Systems Command is conducting market research to identify qualified vendors capable of redesigning the obsolete ALR-67(V)3 Multi-Channel Analog-to-Digital (MCAD) Application Specific Integrated Circuit, which is critical to the sustainment of airborne electronic warfare systems. The original MCAD ASIC is no longer manufacturable, with depleted inventories and missing design documentation, requiring a full re-engineering effort to create a Form, Fit, Function, and Interface (F3I) replacement that integrates seamlessly into existing hardware and software without modification. The replacement ASIC must be an 80-MHz, 22-channel, 7-bit analog-to-digital converter with a 352-pin Ball Grid Array package, incorporating dual-input switches per channel, successive approximation register converters, calibration DACs, clock distribution, and reference circuitry, all designed to convert 22 analog video inputs into 22 digital video outputs at 80 MHz. This effort addresses a pressing Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages issue and is driven by the urgent need to maintain operational readiness. Responses are strictly voluntary and are not offers or commitments; no funding is provided for preparation, and the government retains no obligation to award a contract based on submissions. Interested small and large businesses must submit a capabilities statement of no more than ten pages, including company details, Cage Code, UEI number, relevant past performance with contract numbers and points of contact, and a clear demonstration of technical expertise in designing, fabricating, and testing custom MCAD ASICs with the specified electrical and mechanical characteristics. The anticipated contract will be Cost-Plus Fixed Fee under the NRE exception to fixed-price requirements, with a 24-month performance period centered at Raytheon in Goleta, California. Submissions must be sent via email to Laurelle Brown-Hill no later than 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on July 3, 2026, and a site visit may be required to evaluate potential sources. All inquiries should be directed to the listed point of contact.

AN/UPX-45 and AN/UPX-50 DI RP2 Trouble Report Software CorrectionsThe Naval Air Systems Command intends to award a sole-source, firm fixed price task order under Basic Ordering Agreement N0001922G0009 to BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration, Inc. for software corrections related to the AN/UPX-45 and AN/UPX-50 Digital Interrogator systems. The contract will cover identification, correction, testing, and implementation of Trouble Report RP2 software updates, with an anticipated value of $4 million and an 18-month performance period beginning upon award in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. Work will be performed at BAE Systems’ facility in Greenlawn, New York. The procurement is justified under 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1) and FAR 6.302-1 because BAE Systems is the exclusive designer, developer, and manufacturer of these systems and holds all proprietary technical data necessary to execute the required software corrections; the government lacks a complete technical data package and cannot meet this requirement through any other source. This action is not a competitive solicitation and no other firms are eligible to respond for prime performance. Although the notice is for informational purposes only and not an invitation to bid, interested parties may submit their capabilities to the government prior to the July 30, 2026 deadline for consideration, though the government retains full discretion to proceed without competition regardless of responses. Subcontracting opportunities are available and should be directed to BAE Systems, but firms should note that the government assumes no responsibility for costs incurred in responding to this notice. The acquisition will not follow FAR Part 12 procedures, and all information provided is subject to change without obligation.
