The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Center is seeking information from manufacturers regarding high-performance commercially available t-shirts that could potentially replace the current 100% cotton, brown issue t-shirt. The goal is to identify suitable options that offer superior moisture-wicking, odor reduction, thermodynamic properties, and other performance features, with an eye toward a potential wear test in fiscal year 2004. The t-shirts must be produced entirely in the United States using U.S.-made fibers, although the specific fiber types are not mandated. Designs may be crewneck or mock turtleneck, with either long or short sleeves, and while color is not a current factor, approved shirts will need to match the Army Brown 436. Interested companies are required to submit five samples of their t-shirts along with a detailed information paper by April 15, 2003. This paper must include fabric specifications such as fiber type, manufacturing location, material blend, current uses of the fabric, and pricing information. Submissions must be in writing and sent to the Natick Soldier Center, with no telephone inquiries accepted. Cost will be an important consideration in selection, and this call for sources does not represent an active solicitation but rather an effort to identify potential suppliers for future evaluation.
