TEN017_RM20-905 Repair Ammunition Berthing Pier, TP(Design)

This project will repair/maintain damaged and deteriorated components of ammunition pier Facility 500. REQUIREMENT: Adequate facility to support the loading/unloading of ammunition from various Department Of Defense Service components in the island of Okinawa. Tengan Pier provides support to all branches of the Department of Defense in Okinawa. The facility serves as the only ammunition loading and off-loading pier that provides such capacity to support essential mission in Okinawa. Due to the critical importance of this facility, it is imperative that the pier maintains its structural integrity and service capabilities at all times. Tengan Pier Facility 500 was constructed in July 1966 and has passed its expected service life of 50-years. This project is required to repair/maintain critical components of the pier that is currently damaged or deteriorated in order to extend its service life. There is no alternative structure/facility that can provide the same allowable capacity to support the mission of the various service components within the island. Impact if not provided: Tengan Pier is the only ordnance handling pier for the entire island of Okinawa. This pier needs critical component repairs to avoid unexpected failures and to extend its service life. If this facility is not repaired and experiences section failure, the island will be without an authorized ordnance load/offloading pier facility and this will compromise mission for all service components in the island.
