The Greater Glenshire Fuel Reduction Project

The Greater Glenshire Fuel Reduction Project is a high-priority Community Wildfire Protection Plan initiative funded by the Measure T Community Wildfire Prevention Grant and managed by the Truckee Fire Protection District. Located in Truckee, California, the project focuses on reducing wildfire risk across an approximately 100-acre footprint encompassing undeveloped parcels, open spaces, and common areas. The primary objective is to lower the vertical and horizontal continuity of forest fuels to protect the surrounding community and Wildland Urban Interface, thereby improving evacuation egress and emergency resource ingress. The scope of work involves the selective removal of brush species and suppressed, small-diameter understory trees using hand thinning, chipping, mastication, and limited mechanical tree removal. The project is designated as a Categorical Exemption under CEQA Guidelines Section 15304, Class 4, as it involves minor alterations to vegetation without the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees. Strict environmental constraints are in place to prevent the disturbance of endangered species, avoid sedimentation of surface waters, and ensure that forestland is not converted to non-forest uses. Implementation is overseen by the Truckee Fire Protection District and the Glenshire Devonshire Residents Association.
