AI Contract Overview
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is seeking information from qualified vendors regarding the capability to provide a two-axis Thruster Gimbal Assembly (TGA) mechanism for use with kilowatt-class Hall thrusters, specifically the MaSMi and NASA-H71M models, for spacecraft attitude control and momentum unloading. The TGA must meet stringent performance criteria including a minimum angular range of ±15 degrees per axis, pointing accuracy of ±0.1 degrees or better, a mass of no more than 5 kg, a mounting footprint under 24 cm x 24 cm, a height under 15 cm, power consumption under 20 W during operation and 5 W in idle mode, and compatibility with a 28 V nominal input voltage. The system must operate reliably in extreme environments, including temperatures as low as -40°C, and must include position locking for launch security while handling heat flux up to 15 W from the thrusters. Environmental survivability requirements encompass launch vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, radiation tolerance, and operational lifetime. Vendors are expected to submit detailed technical responses using a provided Vendor Response Template, which must include company identification with CAGE/UEI codes, socioeconomic classifications such as Small Business, Small Disadvantaged Business, or other certified categories under the NAICS code 336414 for Guided Missile and Space Vehicle Manufacturing, with a small business size standard of 1,300 employees. Teaming arrangements, including any SBA-approved joint ventures, must also be disclosed. All responses are due electronically by 10:00 PM Eastern Time on July 24, 2026, to Dominique Reyes at Dominique.reyes@jpl.nasa.gov, with the subject line "Two-Axis Gimbal for Kilowatt-Class Hall Thrusters RFI Response". Initial written questions were due by June 24, 2026, and JPL’s responses to those questions were issued on July 15, 2026, as outlined in Addenda 2, which superseded earlier dates. Addendum 1 had previously extended the response deadline from July 17 to July 24, 2026. This Request for Information is strictly for market research and planning purposes, with no obligation to award a contract; participants bear full responsibility for any costs incurred in responding. All submitted information is considered provided with unlimited rights to JPL, with no liability assumed for its use
