The Veterans Cemetery Grants program, administered directly by the Department of Veterans Affairs, provides competitive discretionary funding to assist states, U.S. territories, federally recognized tribal governments, and eligible counties. The primary objective is to establish, expand, or improve Veterans cemeteries in regions where the National Cemetery Administration cannot fully meet burial requirements. This specific solicitation focuses on infrastructure and is currently seeking FY 2026 pre-applications for projects intended for the FY 2027 priority list. Eligible grants are restricted to the development of cemeteries owned and operated by the aforementioned government entities, with tribal land requirements specifying that the land must be owned by or held in trust for the tribal organization. While the program is currently closed pending the next funding cycle, it remains a key federal mechanism for ensuring adequate burial sites for Veterans through strategic infrastructure grants.
