The RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposed – it does not constitute as a Request for Quote (RFQ) or a promise to issue a RFQ in the future. This RFI does not commit the Government to contract for any supply or service whatsoever. Responses will be treated as information only and will not be evaluated as a proposal. Further, the Government is not at this time seeking quotes and will not accept unsolicited quotes. A return response from the Government regarding the RFI submission is not guaranteed. The RFI respondents are advised that the Government will not pay for any information or administrative costs incurred in response to this RFI; all costs associated with responding to this RFI will be solely at the interested party’s expense. Not responding to this RFI does not preclude participation from future announcements or contracts. The SIDEC Lab at Edwards AFB has a requirement for a X-Ray Machine with the salient characteristics as follows:


The critical specifications that our X-Ray system must meet are as follows:


  • Minimum focal spot size of 5um or less (to support our expected 0.5mm pitch components)
  • Minimum tube voltage: 90 kV (to support our standard 0.063” board thickness)
  • Must support PCB assemblies at least 10”x12”
  • Operates on standard 115VAC @ 60Hz (<14A)

  • Must have a footprint of 36”x36” or smaller, with a maximum height of 48” while being moved, 60” while stationary.
  • Must weight 900 lbs. or less (our workbench capacity)

  • Must not require any external X-ray radiation related safety precautions (must have safety interlocks)
  • Must be a fully functional stand-alone system (no other equipment required to produce PCB inspection images/models)
    • Must include a Microsoft Windows-based PC for control, image preview, and data export.
    • Must include hardware/software for creating Computed Tomography (CT) visualizations (3D models)
  • Basic installation, setup, and training must be included.
