The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking industry input for the future overhaul of generating units G22, G23, and G24 at the Third Powerplant in Grand Coulee, Washington. The project involves a comprehensive scope of work including planning, engineering, disassembly, repairs, and re-commissioning of units rated at 825,642 KVA. Key technical tasks include overhauling generator thrust and guide bearings, repairing turbine components such as wicket gates and operating rings, and installing new mechanical seals. Each unit is expected to take one to two years to complete, with disassembly for the first unit projected to begin in early 2010. This announcement serves as a request for information rather than a formal solicitation. The agency is evaluating three primary execution options: utilizing government forces, contracting the entire project, or using a hybrid approach where a contractor handles planning and oversight while the government performs onsite work. Interested parties with expertise in overhauling generators of this scale are invited to provide feedback on the best execution strategy and submit their qualifications by April 29, 2008.

The entire scope of the project includes planning, engineering, scheduling, disassembly, inspections, repairs, replacements, modifications, reassembly, and re-commissioning of the units. It is anticipated the work will take from 1-2 years to complete each unit and actual disassembly of the first unit is not anticipated to begin until early 2010.
