Identifying Pipeline Safety Research Gaps

The Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is seeking input for research and development projects aimed at enhancing the safety and reliability of the Nation's pipelines. Traditionally, research gaps are identified during public events, which are limited by attendee availability and accessibility. To overcome these challenges, PHMSA is using a Special Notice to solicit research ideas on a continuous basis, allowing for broader participation from a diverse range of stakeholders. This ongoing input will help compile a comprehensive set of research ideas that can inform future solicitations and funding decisions. The solicitation, titled "Identifying Pipeline Safety Research Gaps" (Solicitation Number 693JK319SN0001), was posted on February 25, 2021, under NAICS code 541715. The contract is managed by the Department of Transportation, based in Washington, DC. Interested parties can contact Contract Specialist Benjamin Patterson for more information. This approach ensures a more inclusive and extensive collection of innovative proposals to address pressing pipeline safety issues across the country.

Identifying Hazmat Safety Research Gaps

The Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is conducting a year-round solicitation to gather research ideas aimed at improving the safety and reliability of hazardous materials transportation. This initiative seeks to engage a broad and diverse group of stakeholders to identify critical knowledge and technological gaps in the field. The input collected will serve as the foundation for PHMSA’s Hazmat Safety Research Program, helping to shape its research strategy and guide future funding opportunities. This Special Notice, titled "Identifying Hazmat Safety Research Gaps," was posted in July 2020 under solicitation number 693JK319SN0002 and is categorized under NAICS code 541715, which pertains to research and development services. The effort does not have a set-aside designation and is managed by PHMSA within the Department of Transportation, headquartered in Washington, DC. Interested parties can direct inquiries to Ben Patterson via email. The outreach aims to create a comprehensive portfolio of research concepts that will enhance the agency’s ability to address emerging safety challenges in hazardous materials transportation.
