Solicitation provision
Contracting officers must include the Economic Purchase Quantity provision in supply solicitations unless specific exceptions apply, ensuring efficient government purchasing.
Overview
FAR 7.203 requires contracting officers to include the provision at 52.207-4, Economic Purchase Quantity-Supplies, in solicitations for supplies. This provision is designed to gather information from offerors about economic purchase quantities, which helps the government plan purchases more efficiently. However, there are exceptions: the provision is not required for solicitations under the GSA multiple award schedule program, or if the contracting officer determines that the necessary data is already available, readily accessible, or if it is impracticable for the government to vary its future requirements. The intent is to ensure the government purchases supplies in quantities that are economically advantageous, unless there is a valid reason not to seek this information.
