2026-2027 Truckee Tahoe Airport District (TTAD) Forest Fuels Reduction

The 2026-2027 Truckee Tahoe Airport District (TTAD) Forest Fuels Reduction project is a forecast procurement led by the Northstar Community Services District and the Northstar Fire Department. This approximately 18-month effort is scheduled to begin as early as July 1, 2026, and conclude by January 31, 2028. Funded through the TTAD Wildfire Mitigation Grant Program, the project focuses on reducing hazardous fuel loading and wildfire risk across 181 acres of privately owned forested open space and common-area lands within the Northstar Wildfire Prevention Zone in Truckee, California. The primary objective is to establish a strategic buffer beyond immediate defensible space zones to protect critical infrastructure, residential and commercial structures, and natural resources, in alignment with the 2022 Northstar Community Wildfire Protection Plan and Northstar Ordinance 38-22. The scope of work involves a combination of forest fuels reduction treatments, including hand crew operations, chipping, and mastication of materials generally up to 12.9 inches DBH, with woodchip broadcast depths between 1 and 3 inches. In areas that are inaccessible, contingency pile burning will be utilized with piles ranging from 8 by 8 feet up to 15 by 15 feet, adhering to all applicable smoke management and permitting requirements. Additionally, the contractor will be responsible for surface rehabilitation of track depressions and the redistribution of excessive chip accumulations to minimize soil impact.
