City of San Luis Obispo Wildfire Resilience Treatments

The City of San Luis Obispo will implement wildfire resilience treatments across approximately 250 acres of City-owned open space, focusing on fuel reduction to mitigate wildfire risk. These efforts will include the installation of grazing infrastructure at the Cerro San Luis Natural Reserve to support sustainable land management and reduce vegetation buildup. Additionally, the project will involve conducting cultural burns on about 40 acres within the Irish Hills Natural Reserve in close partnership with the yak tit?u tit?u yak tilhini Northern Chumash Tribe, honoring Indigenous land stewardship practices. The initiative is funded through the California State Coastal Conservancy and aligns with broader environmental and safety goals for the region. All work will occur within designated natural reserves in California, with project management led by Kostoula Vallianos of the Coastal Conservancy.
