The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service, is soliciting sealed bids for the Cow Creek Road Salvage Timber Sale B, covering approximately 255 acres within the central Cow Creek Wildfire area in Levy County, Florida. This sale involves the harvest of dead, dying, and green pine timber located on the Black Prong Tract of Goethe State Forest. The harvest areas are divided into a Primary zone of about 227 acres designated for clearcutting and a smaller Contingency zone of 28 acres, which will be monitored to determine if additional harvesting is necessary. All operations must begin within ten calendar days of contract signing, and strict environmental considerations must be observed, including protection of waterbodies and red-cockaded woodpecker habitats, with exclusion zones marked by the Forester-in-Charge. Timber targeted for removal will be specified by the Forester-in-Charge and may include scattered clusters; however, buyers are not required to harvest non-merchantable or economically unviable timber. This salvage sale, advertised concurrently with two other nearby salvage sales, requires bidders who win multiple sales to relinquish all but one to ensure efficient harvesting. The contract term is twelve months, with no volume estimates provided, and products include salvage pine pulpwood, chip-n-saw, sawtimber, and fuelwood. Interested bidders can obtain full bid details by contacting the assigned representative, Kari Hurst. The Florida Forest Service reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any irregularities. Bids must be submitted by May 14, 2026, with the opening scheduled at the agency's Gainesville office.
