Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) proposes various improvements within the California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) right of way along State Route 299 in Shasta County from post mile (PM) 19.043 to 20.001 near Shasta and Redding as part of their Undergrounding and Wildfire System Hardening Program. PG&E’s 10K mile wildfire system hardening and undergrounding proposes to enter state highway right of way to replace overhead conductor(s), remove pole(s), bore in the pavement, bore outside the pavement, install new poles , install new conductor, anchors, install new overhead conductors, trench outside the pavement and conduct vegetation management work. Vegetation work will include: There are 107 tree points (107 total units) proposed for vegetation work. There are 78 brush removal points (78 units), 7 tree trim points (7 units) 22 tree removal point (22 units) located inside Caltrans right of way. All work will be conducted Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. For overhead conductor removal and installation over the state route, rolling traffic breaks will be utilized with CHP assistance, as approved by the permit inspector and in compliance with the Lane Closure Chart.
