Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) proposes various improvements within the California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) right of way along State Route 299 in Shasta County from post mile (PM) 16.963 to 18.242 near Shasta and Redding as part of their Undergrounding and Wildfire System Hardening Program. PG&E or a contractor from the Approved Contractor List, proposes to enter upon the Caltrans Right of Way to perform the works listed below in Tier 3 high fire threat district for the following reason(s): Construct overhead electric utility improvements as shown on plans at the following locations: • Overhead alongside Highway 299 (Inside Caltrans R/W) at locations: 1, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 will consist of replacement of existing overhead conductor with 2169’ of 3-397 AL XLPE TW 21kV. • Overhead alongside Highway 299 (Inside Caltrans R/W) at locations: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 will consist of replacement of existing overhead conductor with 4279’ of 2-1/0 AL XLPE TW 21kV. • Overhead crossing over Highway 299 (Inside Caltrans R/W) at location 7 over to location 8 and will consist of replacement of existing overhead conductor with 533’ of 2-1/0 AL XLPE TW 21kV. • Overhead crossing over Highway 299 (Inside Caltrans R/W) at location 12 over to location 13 and will consist of replacement of existing overhead conductor with 2-1/0 AR XLPE TW 12kV overhead. There are 48 tree points (48 total units) proposed for vegetation work. There are 43 brush removal points (43 units), and 2 tree trim points (2 units) located inside Caltrans right of way and the remaining 3 points (3 units) are located outside Caltrans right of way, but the crew will use the highway to access them.
