Thus, the lab is currently conducting research in this area and would greatly benefit from the software that is uniquely found on the WS80A w/Elite ultrasound system. The WS80A w/Elite Premium Ultrasound system has several unique features/technologies that no other (known) ultrasound system on the market has. The WS80A w/Elite has 5D technology, which is a suite of advanced applications that allows for semi-automated assessment of fetal anatomy (e.g. heart, brain, limbs). 5D Heart technology is necessary for our project which aims to improve the prenatal detection of congenital heart disease and reduce operator dependency. After a fetal cardiac volume is obtained, 5D heart technology automatically generates and displays nine cardiac diagnostic planes, which allows a full examination of the fetal heart. In addition, the WS80A has unique rendering capabilities (e.g. Crystal Vue) which allow sonologists to detect fetal morphological abnormalities by visualization of both internal and external structures. The PRB performs more than 4500 ultrasound scans per year and has an emphasis on fetal cardiac imaging. The WS80A w/Elite machine will allow the PRB to conduct and advance this research, which is an important mission of the PRB.
