The Detroit VA Medical Center intends to enter into a sole source procurement with Telemetry Research Limited for a specialized SNA Pressure and Biopotential system. This acquisition includes a variety of technical components such as a master receiver controller, subreceivers, wireless power suppliers, and specific consumable packs. The equipment is required for cutting edge experiments involving sympathetic nerve activity recordings in conscious, freely moving rats, necessitating capabilities for continuous 24/7 monitoring over several months and wireless inductive recharging to minimize handling stress. Under the authority of FAR 6.302-3 (a) (2) (ii), the government is seeking this specific system due to its unique ability to support chronic nerve experiments and sequential testing where animals serve as their own controls. While the intent is to negotiate with a single source, other firms capable of meeting these requirements were given until September 5, 2008, to submit proof of their capabilities to the Contracting Officer. This action is categorized under NAICS code 423450 and is identified by solicitation number VA-251-08-RQ-0276.
