The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to issue a sole-source, firm-fixed, one-time procurement contract for the purchase of a Xenon Germ Robot to be used at the Birmingham VA Medical Center in Alabama. The contract will be awarded to GEO-MED LLC, a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, as Xenex, the supplier, uniquely holds the patent for the Pulsed Xenon UV technology. This technology is the only one on the market that does not use mercury-based bulbs, and the Birmingham medical center already utilizes the same brand and model, ensuring continuity and standardization of equipment. Staff are already trained on the device’s reprocessing and sterilization procedures, which aligns with the Veterans Health Administration’s Directive 1116(2), specifying cleaning and sterilization protocols for reusable medical instruments. This procurement complies with FAR guidelines allowing for sole-source contracting and is categorized under NAICS code 339112 with a size standard of 1,000 employees. Although the notice explicitly states it is not an invitation for competitive quotes, interested parties may express their interest and capability to provide the equipment by a specified deadline, though any decision to pursue competition remains at the government’s discretion. The government retains the right to use any information submitted in response and is not obligated to award a contract or provide feedback. Following the review of any responses, a pre-solicitation synopsis and solicitation may be posted on relevant government acquisition platforms, but responses to this notice will not substitute for a formal solicitation response.
