The Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Research and Development, plans to award a sole source contract to Micro Photonics, Inc. for the purchase of the Skyscan 1272 CMOS Edition High Resolution desktop micro-CT system, which includes a 16-sample automatic tube changer and associated software. This equipment will support research led by Principal Investigator Dr. Joshua Yarrow at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. The Skyscan 1272 is selected specifically to replace the existing 1172 microCT system, which has been in use for over a decade. Ensuring compatibility with prior data collected using the Skyscan 1172 is critical for ongoing and future studies, allowing for consistent data comparison and continuity across longitudinal research efforts. The Skyscan 1272 is a benchtop ex vivo micro-CT system designed for high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging of excised tissues, including bone morphology, vasculature, and soft tissues, at resolutions of 0.45 microns or greater. This technology will enhance research capabilities focused on preclinical animal models and provide significant benefits to scientists engaged in cutting-edge studies. Although this procurement is intended as a sole source acquisition, the VA has opened a limited opportunity for other responsible sources to submit capability statements by September 11, 2022. Final decisions on competition or sole sourcing will rest solely with the government contracting office. The contracting officer for this action is Mr. Robin A. Simmons.
