The National Institutes of Health, specifically the National Institute of Alcohol and Alcoholism, plans to modify an existing sole-source contract with MedData Research, Inc. This modification aims to raise the contract ceiling due to new requirements from the Department of Homeland Security for enhanced computer security, the relocation of intramural and extramural programs, and significant organizational changes within the Institutes. The contract supports the development and expansion of specialized computer systems used for medical image processing, neurophysiological data acquisition, and data management analysis in basic research. These systems rely on proprietary software developed exclusively by MedData Research, making them the only provider capable of fulfilling the agency’s needs. This contract adjustment is authorized under federal acquisition regulations that allow sole-source awards when only one responsible source exists. The decision emphasizes the unique capability of MedData Research to maintain and improve these critical research systems due to their proprietary software foundation. Interested parties have a 45-day window from the notice publication date to raise inquiries or concerns, with Terita Stevenson appointed as the primary point of contact for this procurement action. The contract is associated with NAICS code 541511, reflecting a focus on custom computer programming services.
