The Department of the Air Force, Air Force Material Command, intends to award a sole source contract to Sun Microsystems, the original developer of Java software, to establish a Java Center of Excellence (JCOE). This initiative will provide architecture, engineering, and integration support focused on Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) development. The justification for the sole source award is based on the unique availability of the required supplies and services from just one or a limited number of responsible sources, in accordance with FAR 6.302. The contract's period of performance is one year from the award date. While this notice signals an intent to award without competition, responses from other interested parties within 10 days of the notice's publication will be considered to determine if a competitive procurement should instead be pursued. Interested parties may submit proposals or express interest, but the government retains sole discretion on whether to compete the award based on received responses. Contacts for inquiries and submissions are provided, including Sharon Johnson, Contract Specialist, and Kurt A. Bergo, the Government Contracting Officer.
