Under contract N00174-02-C-0036, the Indian Head Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center and Lockheed Martin collaborated to develop and test a supercavitating penetrator utilizing a stepped nose pin design. The primary goal of this initiative was to enhance warhead penetration into concrete, with theoretical analyses suggesting improved performance in soil and water environments as well. This particular modification to the original contract focuses on furthering research and modeling efforts, developing four prototype penetrator designs, constructing, testing them, and subsequently redesigning based on the outcomes. The contract, titled the "Agent Defeat Warhead Program," was issued as a presolicitation by the Department of Defense's Naval Surface Warfare Center at Indian Head, Maryland. While specific details regarding set-asides or NAICS codes are not provided, the work centers on cutting-edge warhead technology aimed at improved penetrative capability for defense applications. The project combines advanced materials research and engineering to support enhanced operational effectiveness in diverse environmental conditions.
