A -- Follow-Up of the Alpha-Tocopheral, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention (ATBC) Study Cohort

The National Cancer Institute plans to negotiate a five-year contract with the National Public Health Institute of Helsinki, Finland to continue the follow-up of participants from the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention (ATBC) Study. This effort builds upon an established international collaboration that began in 1994, stemming from a large randomized trial involving over 29,000 men aimed at assessing the cancer-prevention effectiveness of alpha-tocopherol and beta-carotene supplements. The contract will support maintaining a study coordination unit in Finland, conducting annual monitoring of cancer incidence and mortality using national registries, and gathering medical and pathology records for cancer cases. The contract will be awarded through sole source negotiations pursuant to FAR 6.302, targeting the specific expertise and ongoing involvement of the Finnish institute. Interested parties capable of fulfilling the contract must respond within 45 days; however, no collect calls will be accepted. This continuation of the ATBC Cohort Follow-up Study is critical for advancing cancer prevention research by providing long-term surveillance data on the original study population.
