ADF&G Request for Information (RFI) - RV Medeia Repower

The State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to identify qualified contractors for the repowering of the R/V Medeia, a steel research vessel. This process is for information gathering only and will not result in a direct contract award. The scope of work includes all engineering, design, and installation services required to integrate new engines and gears, including ship checks, propulsion matching, and the removal of existing equipment. Key deliverables include updated engineering documentation, a stability book based on ASTM F1321 standards, a minimum of four hours of sea trials at rated load, and one day of hands-on crew training. The preferred performance window is between November 2027 and March 2028, with a requirement that the vessel be back in service by March 31, 2028. The most critical selection criterion is the availability of factory-authorized parts and service for both the engine and gear in Juneau, Alaska. Proposed equipment must be suitable for trawling and pot hauling, meet current US EPA marine emissions tiers, and be compatible with existing keel coolers. Technical standards for the project include AWS D1.1 for structural welding, ASTM F708 for piping hangers, and ABYC E-11 for electrical work. Respondents must provide a short, direct response including proposed equipment specifications, a narrative of their approach, equipment lead times, and a completed budgetary bid schedule. All responses are due to Procurement Officer Eric Verrelli by December 3, 2026.
