Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) Clinical Networks of Diagnostic ExcellenceThe National Institutes of Health, through NINDS, plans to support multiple clinical Networks of Diagnostic Excellence as part of the next phase of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network. These networks will operate as geographically distributed regional entities rather than single-site centers, leveraging partnerships with academic medical centers, hospitals, and community-based clinics to increase access to specialized diagnostic expertise. The primary goal is to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary, and participant-centered evaluations for individuals with highly challenging and difficult-to-diagnose conditions. Clinical NODEs will be responsible for recruiting participants, conducting medical record reviews, and coordinating evaluations with local partners. Beyond direct patient care, these networks will develop innovative diagnostic tools, re-evaluate unsolved cases, and conduct research to improve the participant experience. They are also expected to engage in network governance, provide standardized training, and incorporate community input through advisory boards. This notice serves as a forecast to allow potential applicants to establish the necessary regional collaborations and partnerships before formal applications are solicited.
