Advancing Global Capacity to Detect and Respond to Fungal Diseases

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, under the Department of Health and Human Services, is soliciting proposals to advance global capacity for detecting, diagnosing, surveilling, and responding to fungal diseases through the Notice of Funding Opportunity CDC-RFA-CK-26-0230. This initiative focuses on building sustainable systems that integrate workforce development, laboratory and diagnostic capabilities, and data-driven public health decision-making to strengthen national and regional resilience against fungal disease threats. Priority is given to efforts that target pathogens with international spread potential and those associated with antifungal resistance, with the goal of supporting long-term ownership and embedding these systems within existing public health infrastructures. The program aligns with the America First Global Health Strategy by enhancing global health security and reducing the burden of fungal diseases worldwide, which directly contributes to protecting U.S. populations through earlier detection and more effective international responses. Funding will support activities implemented at the country and regional levels, with an emphasis on scalable, locally led solutions that promote integration into routine health systems. Proposals must be submitted by August 31, 2026, and inquiries should be directed to the designated point of contact at the CDC’s NCEZID office. There is no set-aside type specified, and performance may occur globally, with no specific place of performance mandated beyond the requirement for international impact and collaboration.
