The Department of Veterans Affairs VISN 21 plans to engage Playpower Labs Neuro UX on a sole source basis for the design and development of digital training tools (DTTs) as part of VA merit project RX003141-01A1, aimed at strengthening neuro-cognitive skills for Veterans with brain injuries. Playpower Labs will create and optimize app-based cognitive training tools, using an existing prototype built on ActionScript and Adobe Air, to support a clinical trial investigating technology-augmented neurocognitive skill development. The primary tool, the GSR-DTT, will offer gamified cognitive challenges embedded in a narrative framework and will include components of skill instruction, individualized feedback, and multi-dimensional behavioral performance assessment. Additionally, Playpower Labs will develop systems to query, analyze, and visualize data to enhance personalized training. Playpower Labs was selected due to its unique expertise in cognitive neuroscience, gamified learning experiences, and digital training tools, particularly for clinical and specialty populations including those with neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury and PTSD. The company has demonstrated capabilities in remote cognitive assessments, real-time data sampling, psychophysiological measurement integration, and applying motivational design principles to drive user engagement and behavioral change. They have extensive experience collaborating on government-funded research and clinical trials, incorporating animated tutorials, and integrating coaching support within digital training environments. This notice invites other qualified vendors to submit capability statements by August 30th, but the government retains sole discretion on competition and contracting decisions. The point of contact for this contract is Lynn Portman at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
