Ancient Forest Society Tree Climbing Training Events License

The California Tahoe Conservancy is executing a license agreement with the Ancient Forest Society to grant access to Conservancy-owned land in South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County. The purpose of this agreement is to facilitate public tree climbing education through nine rope-based tree climbing training events across various parcels, identified by specific county assessment numbers. The project is categorized as exempt under California Code of Regulations classes 1 and 4, as it involves the licensing of existing public facilities and minor land and vegetation alterations that do not require the removal of healthy, mature, or scenic trees. To ensure environmental protection and safety, the agreement prohibits the use of climbing equipment that damages trees and forbids the climbing of any dead, damaged, diseased, or infected trees. Additionally, all training events must take place after August 15, 2026, to prevent adverse effects on nesting birds.
